Great Dixter is a wonderful garden in Northiam, near Rye.  It was the family home of the Lloyd family which was developed into a public garden by the Lloyds youngest son Christopher, known as Christo.  The garden is part of a charitable trust and, following the death of Christo in 2006, has been run by the fabulous Fergus Garratt. 

I love this garden.  I am a friend of the garden and I visit several times a year in all weathers and seasons.  Fergus' work has inspired me as a painter and a gardener.  The way he puts colours and textures together is simply genius. As well as that, it is a haven for biodiversity.  

One of the most admiral things about Fergus is that he has never lost the integrity of the garden.  It has not got a fancy restaurant nor is it a wedding venue.

During lockdown Fergus strived to maintain the garden and support his staff. He is a legend.
